June Produce Report from Howie's Market

June is an exciting month with all the summer fruits are coming into season. First, we will have stone fruits like apricots, nectarines, peaches and plums. We are expecting the first shipment of fruits from Sweet Home Ranch to arrive in the second week of this month. Unfortunately, Santa Rosa plums won’t be available due to the aging trees that are not yielding enough fruits. The ranch had to replant the trees in a different location. That means the newly planted trees won’t bear fruits for at least 3 to 4 years.

Looks like cherry season will be short this year, because of the severe storms that damaged most of the crop back in April. Grapes are in season starting from south of the border and California grapes will come in soon.

Cantaloupe, honeydew, and watermelon are in season too. Melons are the perfect snacks for summer gathering. Just think about the sweetness and juicy texture, so delicious and refreshing, that would make you craving for more.

Summer is not summer without corn on the cob, without husking and picking the silk off the ears, without those little yellow plastic corn cob holders. White corn are always sweet and yellow corn are very creamy, both are great for grilling or simply boil them in water, then add some butter and seasoning, so delicious. A must have for your weekend BBQ!

If you are not sure what seasonal produce is available, please ask one of our produce personnel, we would love to help you with all of your produce needs and answer any questions you might have!
