August is about midway through the summer, and the peak of many summer fruits and vegetables.
Right now peaches and nectarines are at their prime. They are so juicy and sweet that you can smell their aroma from a few feet away. Cantaloupe, honeydew and watermelon are perfect ingredients for fruit salad. Grapes are also in season, best when chilled, a perfect snack for this warm weather. Grapes get especially sweet toward the end of their season (around October).
Vegetables like corn, tomatoes and all summer squashes are in high demand this time of year. Both white and yellow corn are delicious boiled or put on the grill. Tomatoes are also at their prime, they are good in salad or cut into slices for sandwiches and hamburgers. Heirloom tomatoes are the best choice for their flavor.
