There's nothing like when a drink recipe has a high degree of difficulty, but you find that have all the ingredients in your home bar.
This one is a fun tiki drink created by the folks at Death & Co. It's called a Hoi Polloi, which I always thought meant fancy people, but it actually means the common people. This one has the fancy ingredients, but you don't have to be fancy to drink it.
Death and Co. specializes in unlikely spirit infusions, but I didn't think it was worth it to infuse my rye with currants so that I could add 1/2 oz to my drink mix. 😃
McKenzie Straight Rye Whiskey is my go to for drink mixing. It's finished in sherry casks, which brings a sweetness to balance out the spiciness of the rye.
I used Chalfonte Cognac for this one, but we have a number of VSOP cognac's at Howie's for your mixing pleasure.
If you don't have a bottle of Creme de Cacao in the back of your liquor cabinet, we can hook you up as well.
Recipe:
1 oz. VSOP Cognac
1/2 oz. McKenzie Straight Rye Whiskey
1/2 oz. Creme de Cacao
1 oz. pineapple juice
3/4 oz. lemon juice
1/2 oz. simple syrup
1 dash Angostura bitters
pineapple wedge garnish
Short shake all ingredients with 3 ice cubes, then strain into a glass full of crushed ice. Garnish with the pineapple wedge.
Enjoy with a friend.
